trailing the world behind

// text + light installation, 2016 //

Trailing the World Behind was a temporary installation that documented a collaborative writing experiment that pursued the disintegration of a particular written text through processes of (mis)translation, (mis)interpretation, and technological intervention. This project was exhibited at ASSIST Community Services as part of the larger ECOLOGIX research-creation platform.

The project began with an English language written text (written by Jessie Beier), which was then passed along to a series of multi-lingual collaborators who, with the aid of Google Translate, transformed the text into their mother tongue(s). The translated text was then returned to the artist to translate, once again with the help of Google Translate, back into English. This process was repeated several times with a wide range of multi-lingual collaborators, resulting in an immersive installation, which was exhibited at ASSIST Community Services Centre (Southwest Office) in July of 2016.
